Acolytes and Lectors

Acolytes

Acolytes serve at the altar during the Mass. At the High Mass, acolytes are torch bearers, crucifer (cross bearer), thurifer (incense bearer), and sometimes banner bearers. At times, they are also asked to serve at weddings, funerals, and other special services.

Please consider volunteering as an Acolyte:

If you are interested in serving the Lord in this special way.

If you would like to be a crucifer (the person who carries the cross).

If you would like to be a server at the Altar, assisting with the Mass.

If you would like to serve at Weddings and other special ceremonies of the church.

Serving as an acolyte is a wonderful way to experience the beauty of liturgical worship, to get to know other St. Michael’s youth and clergy, and to grow in your commitment to God.

For more information about joining the Acolytes of St. Michael and All Angels’ Church, please contact the Rector.

Lectors and Lay Eucharistic Ministers

Parishioners may also participate in our worship by becoming a Lector (Reader)  or Lay Eucharistic Minister (LEM). Lectors read the First Lesson and occasionally the Second Lesson if there is no subdeacon or master of ceremonies during the Mass. LEMs have been trained and assist with Holy Communion, helping to administer the Chalice.
