Church School Classes and Children’s Chapel
Church School
The Church School program is an important part of life at St. Michael’s and All Angels’ Church. The children’s Church School program runs from the first Sunday following Labor Day to the last Sunday before Memorial Day. Classes are held from 9:15-9:45 a.m. coinciding with the Adult Education class.
Children begin the Church School fall term at the pre-kindergarten level (age 3) and complete the program through 8th grade. We are blessed to have faithful, dedicated catechists who volunteer each year to instill God’s Word through age-appropriate Bible stories and activities.
The curricula introduces Bible stories in sequential order and range in presentation from literal to broader implications for understanding God’s operative mode in the economy of salvation. All Church School instruction seeks to instill a Catholic understanding of Scripture as a means for growth in the knowledge and love of God the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Children’s Chapel
Children’s Chapel begins at 10:00 am in the Queen of the Angels Chapel (Lady Chapel) every other Sunday during the same timetable as Church School classes. The service begins with music and song instruction from our Junior Choir director and is followed by either a basic liturgy of the Word or theological instruction. Both seek to instill an Anglo-Catholic faith as handed down from the Apostles and reflected through the Creeds and the Sacraments.
Snacks are provided each week in the Parish Hall following Holy Communion.
Church School children participate in an All Saints Pageant each year on All Saints Sunday. They also take part in a Nativity Play usually on the first Sunday after Christmas, but occasionally nearer to the Feast of the Epiphany (January 6).
Events
Church School children participate in an All Saints Program each year on All Saints Sunday. They also take part in a Nativity Play during Christmastide.
receiving Holy Communion
All who are baptized in the name of the Holy Trinity (the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit) are able to receive the Blessed Sacrament in Holy Communion. Children who express a desire to receive and begin asking questions surrounding this Sacrament are signaling that they are ready to pursue a fuller incorporation into the Body of Christ.
Before receiving their First Communion, however, the child and parents/sponsors must plan and participate in a meeting with Father Fraser.
