Acolytes and Lectors

Acolytes

Young men aged 10 and up serve as Acolytes in the procession and at the altar during Sunday services. At times, they are also asked to serve at weddings, funerals, and other special services. Acolytes are trained to serve at God’s altar in various roles: banner bearers, crucifers, torch bearers, and thurifers.

Consider volunteering as an Acolyte:

  • If you are interested in serving the Lord in this special way.
  • If you would like to be a crucifer (the person who carries the cross).
  • If you would like to be a server at the altar, assisting with the service.
  • If you would like to serve at weddings and other special ceremonies of the church.

Serving as an acolyte is a wonderful way to experience the beauty of liturgical worship, to get to know other St. Michael’s youth and clergy, and to grow in commitment to God.

Lectors and Lay Eucharistic Ministers

Parishioners can participate in our worship services by becoming a Lector or Lay Eucharistic Minister (LEM). Lectors read lessons during the services once a month. LEMs have been trained and assist with Holy Communion.
